So, the other day I found the answer to a nagging question revolving around the above mysterious thrifty find. For those of you that know me, you may recall being asked if YOU had any guesses. No one knew. I even googled things. Things like ‘stainless steel traffic cone’. Strangely, even google didn’t have a good answer for that one. Honestly, I probably spent a couple of hours of my life trying to figure out what on earth this thing was. I gave up the quest after my friend John said he thought it was the display item for fresh flowers. The sort of thing like at Costco or Sams. This actually sounded plausible, so I decided to give up the quest and drill a bunch of tiny holes into it so I could use it as my mod xmas tree earring display at the Cherrywood Art Fair.
Okay, now for the contest part. Free pair of earrings (your choice) from my ETSY shop (www.christineterrell.etsy.com) to the first person who correctly identifies the above conical object. This is what I knew about it:
1. I got it at the thrift store (of course).
2. It’s stainless steel. (Not aluminum like I first thought. After breaking off the fourth drill bit, I started thinking something was up.)
3. Only the bottom portion of the cone is open. The top is closed, so–big hint here–it’s not some sort of funnel.
4. It’s about 18 inches tall, 10 inch opening on the bottom and the top is about 2.5 inches across.
Here are some [slightly] better pictures:
The contest runs until someone sends in the correct response, or I decide I just can’t wait any longer to reveal to my loyal reader(s) the astounding answer.
